Shegai Lab

Welcome to the Shegai Lab

Research

At the Shegai Lab, we explore how light interacts with matter on the nanoscale. Our research focuses on nanophotonics, light–matter coupling, and Casimir-driven phenomena in liquid systems.

Latest Updates

Stay connected with our latest news — from new team members to upcoming events and collaborative activities.

Prof. Timur O. Shegai has been awarded a prestigious ERC Advanced Grant to push the frontiers of nanophotonics and light–matter interactions.

Latest Activities

Kick-off of our five-year project on photochemistry in microcavities, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW), held at Aspenäs Herrgård in March 2025.

An international workshop on the Casimir effect is planned for June 2026.

Upcoming Events

We are excited to welcome Arthur, who joins our group as a postdoctoral researcher. Arthur’s work will focus on Casimir microcavities, contributing his expertise to advance our ongoing research.

New Members

We are excited to welcome Oliver as a new PhD student. His project will explore photochemistry in microcavities and integrate microfluidic techniques as part of a joint effort with our collaborators.

Funding

Our research is supported by leading national and European funding agencies. We gratefully acknowledge support from the Swedish Research Council (VR), the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW), Olle Engkvists Foundation, the Swedish Innovation Agency (Vinnova, through SIO Grafen and 2D-Tech), and Chalmers Area of Advance Nano. At the European level, we acknowledge funding from the EIC Pathfinder programme (project VALERIA) and the European Research Council (ERC Advanced Grant).
